What would a Jackson Pollock TASTE like? Well, that’s the question that can now be put to rest thanks to Shake Shack and The Phillips Collection in Washington, DC. The creative duo has teamed up for #AngelsDemons&Sweets, crafting an abstract-expressionist worthy “collection” of custards, each inspired by the gallery’s current exhibition “Angels, Demons & Savages: Pollock, Ossorio and Dubuffet.” I wrote on the exhibit here back in February.
Brief admission break…I am currently immersed in this collaboration, however, I think it’s AWESOME. So, I’m sharing in the hopes that you too will think it’s awesome. Best yet, if you’re in DC, you can go taste this custard line-up at the Shack. Going on now, you can sample one flavor per week at Shake Shack, leading up to The Phillips After 5 Hamptons Getaway on May 2nd, where the three custards will face off in a public voting campaign. The winning custard voted that evening will be featured on the board at Shake Shack the following week. Even The Washington Post has its ears perked, writing, “In terms of recent D.C. based historical-commercial tie-ins, abstract expressionism and frozen custard ranks pretty high on the “I did not see that coming” scale.” We’ll take it!
Getting back to the point…Shake Shack and The Phillips Collection have co-curated this collection of custards; the Abstract ESPRESSOnist, inspired by Alfonso Ossorio, the SHACKson Pollock, inspired by none other than Jackson Pollock and last but not least, the Salted Surrealism, inspired by Jean Dubuffet. Pictured above is the SHACKson Pollock, inspired by Pollock’s Lavendar Mist (pictured below,) now on view at The Phillips Collection. Purchase tickets to the Phillips After 5 Hamptons Getaway here and scope out the flavors through May 1st at Shake Shack here in DC, 1216 18th St NW.
